I'll be quick, last night at the Video Game Awards this teaser was shown:

Which confirms rumors from earlier this week that hinted at the inclusion of the God of War character in the new Mortal Kombat. Also earlier this week there was a mishap at the official MK website which granted users access to a directory list of sound files, this YouTube video sums it up quite nicely:

Keep in mind that not always sound files end up being in the game, so this is not a 100% confirmation of the characters, only time will tell. EDIT: More characters confirmed: Ermac and Sindel! EDIT2: Even more characters: Jade and Goro!

Last night's episode of GameTrailersTV with Geoff Keighley revealed the Subway (originally from MK3) and Jax! They also revealed the stage fatality for the stage and Sub-Zero's spine rip fatality, also revealed by Ed Boon was one of Jax's fatalities, which is a mixture of his MK2 fatalities. It's pretty much confirmed now, it was up on GameStop up for pre-order earlier this week and now it's everything but official: an HD remake of the MK1, MKII and UMK3 is coming exclusively to PS3, I'll leave you with the (european) boxart that appeared online today on JeuxVideo:

I for one I can't wait for the official announcement, trailer and/or screenshots! Did they make new sprites? Will the original ports be included? Is there going to be netplay? And if this thing is fake I will probably cry. With that said, expect a huge revamp of the games section to go with this new release! Thanks to the various posts on my twitter timeline for bringing this to my attention, this is huge news! EDIT: TRMK reports that the red corner of the boxart reads "includes the demo for the upcoming Mortal Kombat Game". Which means that not buying this is a very bad idea.

Among the new confirmed info from interviews, Ed continues to tease that if you have a favourite character from MK1 to MK3 it should be included in this game, he's hinted at DLC stages, characters and fatalities, also he's confirmed at least 2 fatalities (finishers) per character on top of numerous stage fatalities (Belltower stage fatality please!), on top of that the tentative release date is between March and April 2011, let me know if I missed some other info on the comments, I haven't watched/read all the interviews yet. Stay tuned to Mortal Kombat Online for the latest info and videos from PAX! Response to the game has been great so far, if you're near the Washington State Convention Center be sure to go, the MK Team is present at the WB Games booth demoing the game, you can even play it if you get in the long line. YouTube is filled with shakycams gameplay footage but I personally like this next video the most, at the beginning you can get a glimpse at the movelist and how to do enhanced (press the right trigger after the special move) and x-ray (hit the right button and right trigger at the same time), after that you can enjoy a classic fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero on Jade's Desert:

Apparently there isn't any new screenshots or artwork for them but when they're released you'll see them here. Credit goes to MK Universe for the first two and PlayStation Magazine for the rest.

Ed Boon was at the end of GameSpot's coverage of the annual convention demoing the game with Paulo Garcia and John Edwards playing 3 fights (one of them in tag team mode) with fatalities at the end of each, just watch the video, anything I say won't be enough to describe it:

What a good day it is when game developers listen to what the fans of their franchise want. This morning the official websites of Netherrealm Studios and Mortal Kombat" went live, a short time later a teaser trailer for the new Mortal Kombat game appeared on mayor videogame news sites:

The trailer kicks off with the start of a fight between Shao Kahn and Raiden, then goes to show various gameplay clips that show that the series is coming back to its roots with 2D fighting style with 3D graphics and a Mature rating featuring the following characters:

• Shao Kahn with his classic MKII look
• Raiden also with his classic MKII look as seen in Shaolin Monks
• Reptile has a new humanoid-reptile form
• Johnny Cage now sports his name tattooed accross his chest
• Sub-Zero with a new design with classic elements
• Nightwolf with a classic look
• Mileena looking similar to her alternative costume from Deception
• Kung Lao wearing his classic outfit as seen in MKII
• Sektor has a new design

Also featured in the background are Kira, Rain and two fighters in the Pit II who look like Taven and Daegon from Armageddon During the trailer we see something similar to the Super and Pro Moves seen in MK vs DC, incorporating multiple special moves into combos. The trailer ends teasing the classic stage fatality from The Pit II and Kung Lao doing his slice-in-half Fatality just like in Shaolin Monks. All of the stages in the trailer bear some resemblance or are identical to arenas from the games of the 2D era: From MK1: Throne Room. From MKII: The Pit II, Living Forest, Kahn's Arena and Dead Pool. From MK3: Stages resembling The Bridge and Rooftop also make an appearance. The game is set to include "A number of new gameplay features including tag team and the deepest story mode of any fighting game", online modes include 4 player tag-team kombat and 2-player arcade co-op. “We can’t wait for players to get their hands on Mortal Kombat,” said Ed Boon, and I can't agree more. Mortal Kombat is scheduled for release in March 2011 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
