sry to double comment, but theres a MUCH easier way to gain access to the screen where you enter the code to get the character.
all you do is lose, then when it goes to the continue screen, tap A 9 times to get to the screen
when you start to enter the code, the clock goes faster to take the screen away from you quickly

That's what I meant: Just look at classic Sub-Zero in the UMK3 section for example. Not all his finishing moves are mentionned. And there are other characters where some of their special moves movement are not right. (Take Kitana's kiss fatality in the MK2 section).

Khameleon is RIPABLE but it'd take years to complete. She is transparent (see through)so whoever attempted to do it would have to rip her from EVERY arena, from every single spot in the arena, and...well you get the point. Both her and Chameleon are techinally un-ripable.

Hey guys, just wanted to say great site! I'm not a memeber, but I've been here many times for years now and I must say your site keeps getting better and better. I'm very impressed. It looks as though your very well close to completing your goal of having everything mk related from mk 1 to Armaggedon. However I have a suggestion. I was wondering if it were possible if you guys could capture sprites from the hand helds. What I mean is the Game Boy andvance and psp series. Examples include MK Deadly aliance, MK Tournament additon, and MK Unchained. I myself own MK Deadly Alliance for GBA and I have noticed the Midway team includes some neat things in it not seeen in their consol versions. For example MKDA for GBA includes the House of Pekara stage as well as the OIA Base that Hsu Hao blew up. On top of that the characters get some pretty wicked costumes that include animai and gothic appearnces. If you haven't gotten a chance to play this game I suggest you do because it is pretty fun. Anyways if any of you guys could capture sprites from that it'd be cool. I know you guys managed to capture Scorpion and Kenshi already, but why not do the other characters? Just a suggestion that I thought would not only enhance your site more but also give you guys a chance to still update now that your Armaggedon section is nearly complete. I'm sure you guys will have PLENTY of time to capture these sprites, if you take my suggestion, since MK8 is a LONG, LONG way away. Sorry this is so long, but it's my 1st time writing and I had much to say after observing this site all these years. Thanks for all your hardwork to all the guys on this site and I hope you'll find my suggestion useful.

I dunno what this have to do with Mortal Kombat but the game I can recall was Marvel vs Capcom.
There were hidden characters, Shadow Lady which was basically Chun-Li darken. As for The Hulk, there was a Orange Hulk. And a character in Marvel vs Street Fighter called Shadow, who was basically the Street Fighter character name Charlie but darken.

Nothing wrong with the MKG section:
-The reason why there aren't fighting stance animations for MKG characters it's because MKG is for the Dreamcast, ergo, there is no such thing as MKGold Strip, therefore we can't rip animations from the game (and I don't have a Dreamcast).
-There is no page for Meat, Sektor doesn't have a mugshot so that's why there is a '?' symbol as a mugshot for Sektor.
-And Sonya has a 3rd costume, there's nothing wrong with that, lol.

I also noticed a lot of mistakes on the MKG section. Here they are:

All of the added characetrs on MKG dont have any renders of their battling stance. All of the characters on MK4 do though.

The page on Meat leads to Sektors page.

Sonya has a 3rd costume.

You have an excellent website but there are some things missing. Looking at sheets from MK's 1 and 2 all pallett swap ninjas had the exact same sprites as another, just different colors of course. When we get to MK3, UMK3, MKT etc. this stopped. Why did it stop? UMK3 Scorpion sheet doesn't have some things from Reptile's sheet. 2D games are not 100% done either. We still do not have a complete spritesheet for Mortal Kombat Trilogy Johnny Cage. Excellent work on everything though. Let me know how to submit things for I've attempted to do this in the past and not gotten through. I have complete spritesheets for MKII Noob, MK3 Noob (Kano version), UMK3 Noob (all black), N64 MKT Khameleon, as well as the Trilogy Rain color difference. Let me know if ya want them.

Hello Murdoink, I know you have some standing animations for MK4, but what I mean is kicking, punching, special moves and pretty much everything wich can possibly be ripped from MK4 for each char… I can help to do it, maybe I can do it for all characters step by step if you want me to; I already ripped Meat for Mortal Kombat project… the graphics were poor so I had to edit every single sprite and create special moves 4 him.

Painted All Black is Hard O_o then just try to Change Black like we does so help here you also Forger Reptile though...Even More Shang Tsung Sprites and Some MK:DA Sprites like Quan Chi or Somewhat I Just make frost doing her Freeze of Death and You need Some Characters from the MK2 Shang Soul Sprites on Body Parts Like Female and then...If you play MK Gold murdoink, You must play and then Take Camera and shot then i need MK:GOLD Animations but who is not the one from friggin Animations on MK1?

As for animations for 3D games, I think it's not possible since the only 3D game with an editing tool is MK4 (with the editing tool being MK4strip).

Listen guys, after the MKW completes all 2D game sprite sheets, the next logical step would be to work on ripping MK4 character sheets. Sprites from MK4 are in very high demand as you know. FrozenWorm says he knows how and would help out. Who else knows how to rip MK4's 3D characters? We need that MK4 strip program right? Is is it really much different than ripping 2D from Mame?

I don't know man, wanna see some MKM sprites soon... I hope you create the MKM sprite zone soon in this web page :P and about MK4 full spritesheets you didn't really answer my question Murdoink... do you like the idea of having a full spritesheet for all characters from MK4/MKG? if possible it would be just perfect to rip the sprites directly from MKG instead... there's this patch version MK4 Enhanced with Kitana, Mileena, Kung Lao and Cyrax but the graphics are not the same.

It would be great if this site steps forward the next generation and rip chars like Onaga, Drahmin, Bo' Rai Cho in arcade size sprites, all it takes is a PS2, a video capturer device (the right one, not just any capturer because it might not work fine) and time to do it right... well is just me dreaming or there's any chance to see that happening in MKW?

Looks you didn't really understand my answer, 3D games DON'T use sprites, they are 3D models and therefore can't be ripped as sprites, which are two dimensional images.
However, on the other hand, MKM sprites are a bright possibility.

That's a technical answer, you have the standing animation for all characters ripped from MK4, and I ripped Meat from MK4, so what you and I can get from a 3D game are no sprites... we can make animations with it, fakes, MUGEN characters... but those aren't sprites... ok whatever they are they can be ripped, if you don't like the idea is another story.

In my opinion, the 3D model are 3D models, you have to take pictures wisely to achieve a correct move in a gif animation, but... when you took that photo and clean the image background you have a SPRITE as a result. It can have a pallete in MUGEN (Meat has pallete), Killer Instinct sprites came from 3D models too and MK sprites are from actual pictures taken to real life actors (real life is in 3 dimensions too), and the sprites are still 2D, not only CAPCOM has sprites, so don't tell me those are not sprites.

Now, what is the real problem for having sprites from next generation MK games in a future? I'm asking because I would like to help if possible, this is something you can't find in any other part of the net and in my opinion it would make this place even more important.

Your first paragraph finally makes some sense, what doesn't is doing that for games AFTER MK4.
There's no problem when I said "3D models can't be ripped as sprites", what I clearly meant with that sentence is that you can't rip models the same way you rip sprites, and we concentrate on ripping SPRITES from games that use SPRITES, 'cause removing the background of a picture with a 3D model on it is not something I'd call easy, let alone putting it over an alpha layer.
Obviously I'm still talking about games after MK4, which is an special case, however, you still can't get from MK4 the very things we've got from every other 2D MK game, which are (official) complete spritesheets sets.
What you and some people have done with MK4 and MK4Strip is making fake sprites based on 3D models, obviously I know you already knew this, I'm just making it clear for other people who have also suggested this idea here before you, and everybody knows MKW hosts no custom sprites, and I don't think we ever will.
Oh and I didn't need the class you did about sprites, I'll not assume you think I'm stupid, at least this time.

We've tried to do it, I personally tried to get an alpha layer out of our MK4 animations.
Other thing we've tried is uploading some textures extracted with MK4Strip as props, which are available on the MK4 section.
The only thing I see possible from this is having other kind of MK4 animations, getting complete "sprites" sets out of all MK4 characters is way too much of a job, and we'd like to do other things first.

I'm not totally sure about what you said Murdoink, you would like to have new MK4 animations right? but in time... after you finish all 2D MKs, did I got it right?

About my Meat, all sprites are edited, because the 3D wasn't good enought, I just fixed some edges, put a little Meat in some sprites of his arms and legs to make it look more uniform... but it's pretty much the real MK4 Meat (obviously without the special moves).

This is why I believe it would be better to put MK4 aside and rip directly from MKG, because you can see even in your standing animations there're a lot of problems with the graphics. It would be like ripping from UMK3 and not from MKT, because UMK3 has better graphics and it's all the same.

The alpha layer and the whole ripping animation is really easy to do in MK4 PC, I run the game in windowed version and take pictures with the screen capturer button :) then I clean the back ground, I asume it wont be that hard with MKG since I saw some standing animations the other day around the net... the alpha layer, if you're having problems with this... I don't know, maybe you should try making animations with FireWorks, at least the alpha layer is really easy with it, and you can do animated gifs too...

So, I just want to give you a little motivation because I'm a MK fan too, for instance in MKM there's the Earth God wich is a 3D character, and it would be horrible to have Wind, Water and Fire Gods but not the Earth God :(

I love Earth God from MKM man... you know what would be great? if you open a contest or something to have more editors like Maggo and Ace Kombat helping you out because I know is not easy what you have done so far... congratulations to all of you.

Hello Murdoink, I ripped all Meat's sprites from MK4 by screen capturing it, it's a process but it can be done, are you planning to rip MK4 animations? if you, Maggo or anyone can rip 3D sprites I believe it would be great to have Earth God (from MKMythologies) or next generation characters like Onaga or Moloch from MKArmageddon... still I know this is not the goal of this site, so I have a couple of questions for you:

- Are you going to create a MKM sprite zone?

MKII Noob, unlike UMK3/MKT Noob is a totally black ninja, I doubt it will be uploaded soon.
Brown blood? That's not from the games, you can just pallete swap to get it.
MKGold animations can't be ripped, for the last time the only tool to rip images from MK4 is MK FOUR strip.
GBA sprites are on hold and there are currently no plans in ripping those.

You’re missing MK3 Shang Tsung’s ghost running sprites, the rest of his morphing sprites, and the rest of his body part sprites. Can you please add those to MK3 Shang Tsung’s spritesheet by the next update? Will you do Ermac’s spritesheet, too? Most of his fans wanted you to update Ermac’s spritesheet, either his white akin or his brown skin. I’d prefer that you should use his alternative outfit for his other spritesheet and then do his brown-skined spritesheet seperately. Sorry for I didn't type properly.

Also, a question. Those who have X-Box 360 Live, with the full version of UMK3, does Classic Sub-Zero have to be unlocked? I have the trial version and u cant play as him. but when i saw the little movies of gameplay they put on, it show shang tsung and classic sub fighting. And it also says, "Oh, u'll get more features and stuff if you get our full version." but i dont know if one of the "features" is classic sub.

I got the order of the messed up order of combo sprites starting on the 4th row:
1st 2nd 3rd,4th 5th 6th 7th
1, 5, last two sprites of 2nd row, 2, 3, 4

(i.e.: 5= 5th sprite in row; should go 2nd/ 2=2nd sprite in row; should go 5th)

These should go after the 4th sprite in the 2nd row: last two sprites of 4th row and 1st sprite of last row.

Some of his combo sprites appear in a screwed up order. The same thing happened to me again with the MK1 Kano sprites. It's MK3 Jax's "no bones" sprites that won't appear. Is it my computer? You also forgot to remove the "Body Parts coming soon" phrase on the body part section when all of the body parts are there. Great update by the way. Finish the last MK3 spritesheet: Cyrax!

Its not that hard if you have the cheats and actually put it at the right settings , I suggest using playstation version . I made pallete cheats for sub-zero so we can replace fake one with real one , but I don't know if I actually released it yet , though it works perfectly . Look at the animations forum by Maggo for my mkm sz animations , I so far have only stance animation and high punch animation .

This site is almost done of having every sprite from mk1 - umk3 :D ! Well , probably after ripping sprites we then need more prop and projectile sprites .

Yes Maggo, I know what the fatality is and what the name is. Thanks for telling me that UMK3 Smoke uses Scorpion "blown away" sprites. Well, it was fixed in MKT? Didn't notice. Murdoink, when you start getting more missing MKT sprites, could you post them? It might be only one sprite cause I used it on the others and saw only one sprite. Well, I used it on the classic characters and saw only one sprite for it. It might be different for the later characters, but I'm not sure because I don't have MKT within my reach... yet.

Here's a list of missing sprites I noticed:

MK1: Liu Kang's fireball, Johnny Cage's 2 shadow kick sprites, Sonya's laying down sprite, and her leg grab special move [how does she get there w/only one sprite???]

MKT:
MK1 Kano : roundhouse, victory pose, special move [w/mk3 knives], body parts, other
MK1 Raiden : body parts, other
MK2 Raiden : body parts, other, sprites turning into animal? (don't have access to PSX MKT)
MK2 Baraka : body parts, other, sprites turning into animal? (don't have access to PSX MKT)
MK2 Kung Lao: body parts, other
MK2 Jax : body parts, other

That's all I noticed so far. The fatalities that have special sprites are triple separation, shocked, inflated head, super skinny, burned, sucked, blown away, and no bones. Try these on classic MKT characters and you're bound to get the exclusive sprites not here yet.

Some reason, when Sindel performs her Death Shriek fatality on the male ninjas, they all have Scorpion's costume. This was fixed in MKT.

Also the ghost sprites in umk3 arcade shows scorpions ghost , to every ninja , same with the females , but not the cyborgs . Here is that duck turn sprites . Enjoy .

Murdoink doesn't put up frozen sprites. When he jumps back after using ice clone, he uses the same sprites as jumping back regular, which he puts up. Sub-zero's upward ice throw sprites are the same as one of his alternate victory pose, which Murdoink also puts up.

His missing sprites are his ghost running, turning around while ducking, a punching sprite (2nd to last for regular punching), some high kick sprites, some combo sprites, one being thrown, some spear and telepunch sprites, body parts (triple separation, burned, shocked [3], blown away, head blown up, sucked in, no bones [1]), some finsher sprites, and the “other” sprites. PLZ GET THEM!

Also, when u do the UMK3 Sub sprites, note that in mkt n64 he has the upward ice thing, so be sure to add that. and ice clone so make a flipping iced sub and standing still one

So, what's next? MKT sprites or polishing of the remaining 3 spritesheets [Jax,Cyrax,Noob] of MK2/MK3? If MKT, you gotta try all the fatalities that have it's own sprites (triple separation, super skinny, burned, shocked, blown away, head blown up, sucked in, no bones) on the classic characters. I don't believe Baraka, Raiden[both], and MK2 Kung Lao have any combo sprites. They probally still will have special body part sprites. Don't forget to look at News Archives, May 2006, MKII Johnny Cage’s spritesheet, comments, comment 7 by Hornbuckle. The links will be really helpful even though it won’t include MK1 Kano’s victory pose.

I now have a the reason WHY the sprites look the way they do, its because the sprite is covered by the green "soul" effect, I feel retarded I took the time to play in mame and advance 1 frame at a time during the move when if you go to Shang Tsung's page they have a video clip of him stealing Kitana's soul and you can see the sprites and why they do what they do.

I think the sprite could have been ripped better (with the green effect) but thats not to say whats ripped is wrong.

What I was saying is that the arrow sprite isn't in the Kahn set, but Mileena's sai shot is in hers, as is kitana's fans etc. The reason why Kahns sprites shouldnt be lumped together is that he didn't have the hammer move in MKII and he didnt have the arrow move in MK3. I honestly thought the arrow in the sprites section was nightwolfs *shrug*.

as for the sole stole sprites appearing like that , there no way half the sprite disappears. I don't have the time to play and check right now but Im 99.9% positive it was ripped improperly

If you wanna be real picky, you could point out that projectiles are missing, including some shadow move effects(Kahn's Shadow shoulder, and Victory knee). Oh, lets not forget the still incomplete sections for some character's.

Malenko, that's how Shao Kahn appears in MK2 and MK3. His arrow toss sprites are there. If your looking for his arrow, go to MK2, scroll down a bit and find FIREBALLS. Wait a bit and you'll see the arrow. Now Murdoink, since MK2 has all of the spritesheets, you should put the fireballs in the right spritesheets or remove them if there already there.

We currently have no plans in having fake sprites or sounds in the site, and the MKT sprites are smaller because they are smaller in the game.

Uh looks like I ate a word up there, it's fixed now, heh.
To Chameleon, I believe that the UMK3 Rain spritesheet is pretty much complete, if you noticed some missing sprites at least tell us which.
And as a notice, next updates will focus in the MKA bios, the completion of both MKII and MK3 sprites (two spritesheets left in each game), some animations and some other missing MKT sprites. UMK3 sprites will have to wait a little bit.

Rain's missing sprites are his ghost running, turning around while ducking, a punching sprite (2nd to last for regular punching), some high kick sprites, some combo sprites, one being thrown, some spear and telepunch sprites, most of his body parts, some finsher sprites, and the "other" sprites.

The Rain UMK3 sprites may be hard to rip those kinda sprites ( Except for the ducking turn ones , I think I posted the sprites on of the Rain comments but end up not seeing it ) . Like the inflated head being fatalitied , it would show as a different color other then Rain on mame with the cheats , because fatality colored Plate and fighting colored Plate are different and seperated from each other . I have never tried to switch the addresses to the fatality colored pallete , but I did to Jade and end up not looking to good .

Um. Shang Tsung in MK3 needs more sprites like his body parts, his ghost running sprites (and animation, and one of his special moves sprites was missing. Oh, I would recommand Ermac with his white skin (not the brown skin, he'd look silly) for his spritesheet to be complete.

I hope that you will include Sektor's missing sprites in the next update. His missing sprites are his alternate stance, alternate victory pose, ghost running, some combo, both alternate throws, the last telepunch sprite, alternate special moves, alternate finishers, a torso w/out knees down area sprite, the first one being zapped, "other", and some other body parts (super skinny, blown away, being sucked in, and burned). Plz remove the repeated sprites (balloon head and torso) in the body part section. Smoke is also missing being sucked in and "other" sprites.

Uh, the sprites have an alpha layer, use a program that is capable of recognizing that layer (i.e. Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc)

Is it possible for you to change the background color for the sprites of the cyborgs? Most of the sprites have a black background which makes it extremly dfficult to use them in MS Paint.

GJ to the sprites , and yes it is missing some sprites , hope the GIF sektor sprites don't have dithering on them ( Happens if GIF program is setup so wrong , or if the colors go over 256 ) . Anyway I have some sprites , and it might complete the spritesheet . Download .RAR from here , this includes Sektor's alt. stance ( And perfect alternate animation ) , smoke effect sprites ( 5 sprites ) , and his teleport punch ( The way it was ripped , it had the legs cut off , plus one of them were missing in MKW )

Um... The blood sprites that are used when an opponent explodes during a fatality, those sprites are missing (like Kano's Laser Eye Beam fatality and Sheeva's Animality). It is probally because of that the fact that Jade is a hidden character, and cannot be normally fataliti3d, so therfore, her blood color is brown with the sprite

Jades here ! :) ! Yeah her being fatalitied is not the best , she wasn't suppose to be fatalitied . I'm thinking that since Midway tought they were unplayable ( Until cheating came ) , they decided not to add the fatality pallete for the secret characters . When you try doing fatality to Jade at Mame , it looks very glitchy , same goes with the baby Jade , so I had to get the fighting standard pallete from Jade and move that over to the being fatalitied pallete side , and thats how it turned out to look like . So it ain't that good unless Murdoink opens up a re fix area of being fatalitied and hue artists can try to get Kitana or Mileena being fatality sprites and hue swap them to look like Jade and the sprites will go there . Besides that , he rest should all be at perfect condition .

TIP for sprite rippers : Use the Pit 3 stage for the sprite rips , and then turn off bkg with cheats and since the bkg’s default color is black , use the pink background color cheat as well . You may also add the no lifebar cheat as well .

Hmm , white background ? It is transparent in the page , but I guess you are probably opening up that image in paint . Use some program that have transparency tool with the painting program , Photoshop is one but it is not free . I don't know about this one , but there is another program called GIMP , and I think it may have transparency tool , and the good thing is that its free . Give GIMP a try and see what result you get when you open a image up , if you are however viewing a white bkg for Rain in the internet , then you probably don't have a updated version of Internet Explorer , since IE's latest version 7 just added PNG transparency .

Nice job, beat me to it. Liu Kang was the first sprite set I ever ripped. But I never send it. I felt it was incomplete or something since it was my first and all. So I worked on Umk3 Scorpion instead. But props to ripping the Friendship, cause I ripped the whole frames including the finger movements with the projector screen. XD If I was to send that, it would've been alot of sprites.

And Murdoink I tried getting you to update this tiny error I did, but I'll just say it here to make it easier. Kano-Ducking and Jumping section. The Flipping sprites (or Cannon ball attack).
Delete the 4th sprite. It doesn't belong. I got lazy and kept rotating the first two frames. Bad mistake.

AceKombat can you rip Kano's sweeping attack, his foot is cut out. And same goes for Getting Up after he's been sweeped on, feet cut out.

Sorry, but just to point out two small mistakes:

1. Both Kitana mugshots don't have yellow around them on the site map.
2. The soul stealing sprite of MK2 Kitana, has some Mileena sprites, and also with MK2 Shang Tsung's kiss of death he has gone from yellow to blue (if this is a technical error, I apologise)

Can you use UMK3 Kitana spritesheet to do the same thing for Mileena and Jade, and the MK2 Kitana spritesheet for MK2 Mileena and MK2 Jade? I would recommend the UMK3 Reptile, MK3 Jax, MK3 Kabal, or the UMK3 Ermac spritesheet as the next update. How about the MK3 Smoke spritesheet used for MK3 Cyrax and MK3 Sektor? How about the UMK3 Human Smoke and UMK3 Classic Sub-Zero spritesheets? How about the MK3 Liu Kang or the MK3 Sonya spritesheet?

False. According to Wikipedia, the Midway staff mambers said that Khameleon WILL NOT be in Armageddon, not even in Wii version. Khameleon fans really want her so FREAKING bad, but Madway said no. So, she is not going to be in Armageddon. The only Mortal Kombat video game that you can play as her is the Mortal Kombat Trilogy in Nintendo 64 version (she doesn't have any moves, or finishing moves of her own, so she burrowed all the female ninjas' moves as of one ninja at a time and not all at once). To fight against her, go to the Star Bridge with any character, uppercut your opponent, and when Dan Forden pops up and says "Toasty!" (sometimes he does that when you're doing an uppercut or any combo), press Down + Start. If you did it quickly and sucessfully, you will be transported to the Living Forest. I've been making some comics lately, using the sprites here (given the site credit for all of them, of course) and they've been really useful. ^_^ So I wanted to say thanks a lot.
In your MK1 sprites, would it be possible to get some of the characters after having Johnny Cage's "ballbreaker" move used on them?
I'd rip them myself but I haven't a clue how. o.o
